First of all, it's so different watching the olympics on international television (vs. watching it in America). Shockingly enough, the cameras DIDN'T focus only on the Americans. In fact, we didn't know a SINGLE background story on ANY of the American athletes. It was kind of weird.
As we watched the men's team finals, the cameras focused mostly on China and Japan...because they were winning. In one of the rotations we were watching the Chinese team on the high bar (I think) and in the background we could hear the crowd chanting, "USA! USA!" and then all of a sudden we heard a collective, "Ohhhhhh." We were laughing and shouting, "What happened? What happened?" But we never found out....not until later when we read on the internet about the Americans all falling on the pommel horse.
Since the Americans did so poorly in men's team...and therefore were hardly focused on....we had to choose someone else to cheer for. So who did we pick?

Marcel Nguyen from Germany
Why??
Because we liked his name.
And his hair was just too perfect.
Aren't we shallow and so very fun??
And guess what?
He did a great job for Germany, and won a silver medal just a couple of nights later in the men's individual all-around!
woo hoo!!
