Scott and Laura share a birthday! Scott says that Laura is the best birthday present he's ever gotten. (awww....) Twelve years ago, in the middle of the night, I didn't feel Laura move for about 4 hours. It was the day before her due date...and it was a SCARY experience. I called my doctor who told me to head to the hospital and he would meet me there. He actually BEAT me to the hospital - he was so concerned. After a quick ultrasound confirmed that Laura was ok, my doctor decided we weren't taking any chances and he induced labor. And, just like that, Scott's beautiful birthday present arrived several hours later! Our little red-headed blessing who looks so much like her Aunt Lydia!
On Laura's 11th birthday (which was Scott's ??? birthday) we had only been in Uganda for 9 days. No time to plan the most exciting memorable birthday ever. Although we DID go out to eat and she got a notebook computer (we snuck it through all the airport checkpoints so she wouldn't see it!). So for her 12th birthday (and, yes, Scott was a year older too!) we had a party with a couple of families here in Gulu (we had only lived here for a little over 2 weeks...what's with moving RIGHT at their birthday?!? hmm....)
We had a LOT of fun!! First there was a fun birthday song....written by the Becks. Then we had a time of prayer and affirmation....praying over Scott and Laura and listening for words of affirmation from God about them. It was a very special time as they were encouraged and built up in Jesus.
Then it was time to eat and hang out!! Yummy spaghetti, green beans, and garlic bread. A special treat was cherry kool-aid. In America I never let my kiddos drink kool-aid....but here, it's a special treat!! (sorry, Julie and Lori!!) Of course there was dessert....lemon squares and hot fudge cake. The grown ups hung out and talked and the kiddos ended the night with a game of capture the flag. woo hoo! fun fun fun!!
