Blessings 365: Day 98: The Hunger Games party

I truly think one of the hardest parts about being a missionary (or a missionary kid!) is missing out on things in America!!  I really do!  Whether it's NOT eating at the newest Chick Fil A to open, or NOT going to a Ranger game at The Ballpark in Arlington, or NOT going to the premiere of The Hunger Games movie...it's just hard some times!!

So we were super super excited when Scott went to Kampala last week and found a copy of The Hunger Games on dvd.  Now, mind you, it's not the greatest copy!  The dark scenes are really dark.  But, hey!!  It's a copy of the movie!  woo hoo!!

Last Saturday night we planned a Hunger Games movie watching party at our friend's house (love you, Becks!).   We had chili (yes, it's rainy season, so it was actually cool enough for chili!), and potato soup with bread (in honor of Peeta), and cupcakes with red frosting (like flames in honor of Katniss).

What made it extra fun was our kiddos deciding to dress up (thank you, Jessie!).  Hope you enjoy the red carpet pictures of the big event!!

First of all, Jessie did hair and make up....

And designed Benji/Peeta's costume....

And we were all wowed with the finished product.....

Melissa as Effie Trinket and Jessie as Portia

Laura as Venia

I love the glittery designs on her forehead!

Of course, no Hunger Games movie premiere is complete without Katniss....

Party time!  First a little food prep...

Then time to settle in with our bowls and FINALLY watch the movie!!

Of course, The Hunger Games is a little too intense for Nate, Annie, and Garrett.  So they got to watch Elf instead!!
