There are no washing machines in Kampala! Or, if there are, we can't afford one!! So laundry is done by hand. Every day Mama Benna helps us with laundry. On the weekend we wash our own socks and "undies" and catch up on a few other pieces of laundry. Wanna see what it looks like?
Here's how Mama Benna washes clothes. I don't know how she (and all the other Ugandan women) do it! It just makes my back hurt to watch her.
Most days my kiddos sit outside and chat with her as she does laundry. They practice their Luganda with her. She asks them questions about America and they ask her questions about Uganda. It's quite sweet the relationship that they have with her!!Here's how we do laundry:

We sit and chat and laugh as we work! It's actually not too bad!!
And, yes, even Benji and Scott wash clothes (but Scott wouldn't pose for a picture!). In fact, even the little kids love to "help" wash clothes! They're getting better and better at it!!
So, this is a typical laundry day at our house! I have to say that our clothes are actually cleaner than when we lived in America!! One "drawback" is that hand washing clothes stretches them out. SO we're losing weight AND our clothes are getting stretched from washing.... Gonna have to go shopping soon!
We are praying heavily and fervently for God's direction and favor to move to Uganda. I was just asking my husband how on earth we'd wash clothes. Yikes. Thank you for this informative post!
