Blog-a-Thon 2011

It's finally here: Blog-a-Thon 2011!!! So what *is* a Blog-a-Thon? Well, to me it’s like a telethon....only it's on a blog!!

For those of who don't know what a telethon is...here's the description from wikipedia: a telethon is a fundraising event broadcast on television that lasts many hours or even days, the purpose of which is to raise money for a charitable, political, or other allegedly worthy cause. So this is a fundraising event on our blog!

From Friday morning until Monday morning the Rackleys are having a Blog-a-Thon !! We are going to see how many of our facebook friends and blog readers will donate $5 (or more!) as a tax-deductible donation to our work in Uganda. Then on Monday morning we will post the total (and we will include donations that have already been received in response to our blog post and facebook status updates so far).

Why this end-of-the-year push? God is calling us to move further north in Uganda. I am working on our newsletter and will have it online on Monday with more details. But, as you know, with a move comes extra expenses. Here in Uganda, we are required to pay 6 months rent in advance. We also have to pay for a truck to move our things and before we move we have to purchase a generator because power is off more in Gulu than it is in Kampala.

So this weekend - a week before Christmas - as you are buying presents, working on menus and grocery lists, wrapping gifts, and signing Christmas cards....will you take a few minutes and help the Rackleys in Uganda? It can be your Christmas gift to us!!

Some might be thinking, "What's $5? What good will that do?" or "Oh well, it's just $5, someone else will give." I've had those same kind of thoughts....but think about a light bulb.

One little light bulb doesn't give much light....maybe enough to light a room. But if you put a BUNCH of light bulbs together you get Las Vegas:

In the same way, you giving up a value meal at Chick-Fil-A...or skipping one coffee at Starbucks...may not seem like a big deal. But if YOU do that and 99 other people do that....all of a sudden you've been a part of a HUGE blessing to the Rackleys. And imagine of 999 other people did it! Whoa! GOD can use you - and your $5 - to accomplish HIS work in Uganda! That's pretty cool!!

Just go to the Every Nation website and click on the big red donate button. From there you can sign up to give a one-time gift or become a monthly supporter!! There’s also an address listed if you prefer to mail a check. We are called “Suubi Family” online, so make sure you mark your gift in the appropriate box.
